The Guardian, formerly Manchester Guardian before it went national, is Britain’s largest left wing newspaper. It has adopted all the pathologies of the left including Jew bashing and Israel hating. It is no friend of ours either. It would never publish a piece like this, for example, because it might offend the mullahs in Iran. It has no problem offending Americans, though, but our future president’s pastor leads the way there. This, by the way, is the nightmare of the Guardian. People might be changing their minds.

Saturday, May 3rd, 2008More results of multiculturalism in Britain.
Saturday, April 19th, 2008I have previously posted about my concerns over the British trends that mimic similar trends here in the 1960s. We wound up with cities that were unlivable and the movie “Death Wish“, which portrayed a man who becomes a vigilante after his wife is murdered by thugs in New York City, was greeted by standing ovations in movie theaters. The movie was so successful, it made a huge star of Charles Bronsan and spawned three sequels.
The Labour government has relentlessly pressed forward with policies that reward bad behavior and with education “reform” that removes the British culture and history from the society. I recently noted an absence of historical knowledge among tour guides at an historic castle in Britain.
The result of the Labour policies has been prosecution of protesters who oppose Muslim influence while Muslims attack government ministers verbally and collect welfare benefits for their many wives.
Although already married with three children and reportedly living off £700 a month in state benefits, the 31-year-old is seeking more wives, with the intention of fathering more than nine children.
The same courtesy doesn’t extend to non-Muslim protesters collecting petition signatures. The new law is called the Racial and Religious Hatred Bill and illustrates a fact often unappreciated by Americans. Britain has no “First Amendment” free speech rights. The results are now becoming apparent. A new BBC poll suggests that Britons are worried about racial violence.
Certainly they have seen plenty of evidence recently.
The trial of the airplane would-be bombers.
The 2005 Underground bombings.
There are plenty of warnings. Are they being taken seriously ?
The conversion of Muslims to Christianity
Thursday, April 3rd, 2008This is an interesting discussion of Muslims leaving Islam, following a prediction of Daniel Pipes that the Iranians may leave Islam if they reject the theocracy now ruling Iran. Al Qeada may be the catalyst for much of this as they show the dark side of the religion. Interesting times.
Why we fight
Monday, March 3rd, 2008During World War II the soldiers were all required to attend a series of movies made by the then-patriotic Hollywood studios. The movie series was called “Why We Fight.” This article in City Journal would make a worthy addition to that motivational literature. I am still mystified by political liberals who argue a moral equivalence between our society and the world of Islam where most of them would be subject to instant subjugation, if not worse.
Of course, German rappers disagree.
Obama’s Chicago roots begin to show
Sunday, March 2nd, 2008This is only the first of what I suspect will be a voluminous literature on Chicago politics by November. There are some pretty odd characters here. William Ayers, for example, is another example of a 60s radical from a wealthy background who has somehow avoided prison. They seem to have been able to resume lives in society although a few are in prison where most of them belong.
Some of them, of course, blew themselves up. Diana Oughton was one whose family was prominent in Dwight, Illinois. Her father operated a restaurant for years that was adjacent to the family’s old patent medicine plant.
It will be interesting to see how this evidence of Obama’s radical background plays out.
UPDATE: Here is more on Obama and the women in his life. No, I don’t mean that kind of women. His mother and his wife are very revealing about a man who has almost no history. He is a blank page (or an empty vessel if you prefer that metaphor). Others see what they want to see.
Now they are even checking his facts.
Oh Oh. The honeymoon may be over.
Will this wake up England ?
Saturday, March 1st, 2008Prince Harry is back from Afghanistan and is being threatened by Islamist fanatics. Do you suppose this might be enough to rouse some British patriotism ? I wonder.
Obama as the Arabs see him
Friday, February 22nd, 2008There has been much rhetoric about Obama “restoring our place” in the world after George Bush wrecked the great love that everyone had for us. Maybe his ideas need more thought if this analysis of Arab opinion is any guide.
I hope he knows more about the Middle East than he knows about the army.
Obama gets some support from ABC’s Jake Tapper who has talked to the captain. He was commanding a platoon when he was a lieutenant and a couple of the other parts of the story are different. Still, Obama got it mostly correct.
Better screwed than rude
Tuesday, February 19th, 2008Mark Steyn, as usual, has a pithy view of the cultural collapse of Europe. More Eurabia.
The intellectual foundation of Dhimmitude
Tuesday, February 12th, 2008This essay in World Affairs Journal explores at considerable length the role of European intellectuals in the surrender to jihadists. The analogy to Munich 1938 comes near the end but the argument is made throughout the piece.
Then there is this story with the juxtaposition of heroism 60 years ago and cowardice now. Britain is not the same country it was in 1940 and the people who made it what it once was are dying off quickly.
Hesham Islam is out
Monday, February 11th, 2008I was concerned about the story of Hesham Islam. I have had several posts on this story.
It got stranger and stranger, especially his life story.
He is (was) the Muslim assistant to an Undersecretary of Defense who was conducting controversial “outreach” to some odd Muslim groups. Now he is out. Apparently his life story was just too odd to remain believable once the spotlight went on.
