It’s the spending, dammit !

The deficits are being blamed on the collapse in revenues by the Democrats. Certainly they are aggravated by the drop in revenue but is that all the reason ?

NO NO NO NO NO !

The spending line is in constant dollars. Had revenue not dropped (The dotted green line) the deficits would still be huge.

Spending is upwards and unconnected to revenues. I don’t know how you change this dynamic. Elections are supposed to help but it seems anyone seeking public office has been co-opted by the “free money” meme.

If the Republicans don’t do something about it, (PBS is a good candidate for a haircut.) they won’t be there long. A third party will arise very quickly.

  3. You’re wrong, Mike.

No “third Party” will rise to smite the Left.

On the contrary… if the GOP reverts to form – even partially – and again betrays the trust of libertarian-leaning constitutional conservatives…

    Violence.

By and large – at least here in America… historically at least… third Parties tend to result in Democrat (and more recently far Left Democrat) electoral victories. This is because as long as the Dems can hold on to their special interests (90%-plus blacks, majorities of Hispanics, Jews, unionists, urban upper middle class professionals…) any split in the traditionalist/conservative (social conservatives/fiscal conservatives/foreign policy conservatives) Republican ranks helps the Democrats electorally.

With the specter of their constitutional (and financial as well as social) liberties at risk of being snuffed out together, I believe what is created is the likelihood of violence.

It doesn’t take millions, hundreds of thousands, or even tens of thousands united under a particular banner to ignite a political powder keg. All it’ll take is for a few thousand “qualified” people to look upon the idea of violence as no longer unthinkable and from their just a few need to take that last step towards actually committing violence for the world as we know it – America as we know it – to embark upon a mixture of chaos and tyranny.

America 2010 faces our worst existential crisis since the 1850’s… and you know what the 1850’s led to.

  4. The Republican Party began as a third party. I think Boehner is smart enough to heed the tea party lesson. McConnell ? Who knows.

I think we will see violence when the cuts start to hit government employees. The right has never been violent; always it’s opponents.
