Happy Thanksgiving

My turkey is in the oven but I thought I would provide a few pictures of wild turkeys in southern Arizona. These were taken at my sister-in-law’s family ranch south of Tucson.

The wild turkey tom

This tom turkey has his harem of nine hens trailing behind him. I was warned not to get too close as he can be quite aggressive but he seemed to tolerate me.

The flock crosses the meadow.

The flock crossed the creek at a narrow spot and started across the meadow.

Here they head off to the north feeding, with the tom on the alert for danger.

the ranchhouse

The ranchhouse sits on a low hill with a magnificent view to the east.

Ranch house close

The house is larger than it looks from a distance. A porch provides a gorgeous view.

The girls sit on the porch

Here, Annie and her friend Sammie, sit with Cindy on the ranchhouse porch. Have a great holiday everyone. We all have a lot to be thankful for.

It’s nice to see, Dr. K., that you have declared a holiday from politics on this day. Not everyone does, and even they should take a moment to consider their own good fortune compared to so many others. You bet we ALL have MUCH for which to be thankful. Best wishes to you and your family….

  2. The same to you. I will spend the day cooking and watching football like any normal American. My blog efforts will be on sailing this weekend. As I learn this new system, it gets easier. I should thank the fellow who convinced me it was time to spend less time at TFS but it’s too nice a day to get into that.

Hey, Dr. K., do you get scorpions and tarantulas where you are in Arizona? My ex-wife’s father lived out Tucson way, and he showed me all kinds of critters on his property. Even that freaky wasp, the tarantula hawk, that stings spiders MUCH bigger than itself, and drags it off to a burrow. There, it lays its eggs…and…well, Thanksgiving comes in many forms.

I enjoyed the photos of the turkeys!
