I love this piece about Cuba.
Cuba features a universal health care system, a minuscule 1.9 percent unemployment rate, near-total literacy, complete political “unity” — and hundreds of thousands of people ready to risk their lives to get the hell out.

I read the post and comments you linked several times through and did’t feel the author killed his point with a disconnect as the commenter said.
What make me laugh was the commenter who said, “In what way are they miserable? If the people are happy with their situation and free to speak their minds, why would material possessions matter? ” I believe that only someone who has never been oppressed and alway had a plethora of choices available to them could make such a comment.
