I have quit commenting on Althouse blog and have stopped reading or commenting at Patterico.

UPDATE: One more reason why I don’t comment there anymore.

I have not seen any comments from [Michael K.] in the past few days.

It’s been quite nice; I’m hoping he’s dead.

Life is too short for angry politics. I am long retired from medical practice and have been particularly interested in politics since 9/11. The Risks of Islamic terror have preoccupied me to some degree, and I began blogging about it in 2009.

The Erdogan government took over Parliament in 2002 and placed many of their members in key positions in the judiciary.

On May 5, 2006, the Ankara Criminal Court overturned the verdict against Gülen. While a public prosecutor — a secularist hold-out — appealed the court’s action, the process is now nearing conclusion. Gülen’s supporters are ecstatic. His slate wiped clean, Gülen has indicated he may soon return to Turkey.

This would be very bad news. In another example of her clumsy manipulation of other people’s business, Condaleeza Rice is about to interfere on the side of the Erdogan government.

I was not impressed with Ms Rice as a Secretary of State although her namesake, Susan Rice, would have been far worse.

I was not at all confident Trump would win the 2016 election.

The onslaught of conspiracy theories from the left since the election has stirred me to some anger but it is not healthy to get too wrapped up in the such things, especially having to deal with the angry left, which is now nearly insane.

I quit Patterico after the election, especially after the controversy about Roy Moore in Alabama. Patrick Frey was once what I considered a friend but, after he accused me of lying because I disagreed with him, I have abandoned his blog. It is not worth reading anymore as many of his previous interesting commenters have left.

There are still interesting people commenting at Althouse so I will skim the comments to look for interesting points and links.

Meanwhile there are interesting books to read that are stacked up in my “to read”pile. I am also trying to review my Calculus and Physics from 60 years ago, which will require reviewing some more basic math.

Lots to do and not too many years left to do it. Meanwhile, I continue to read and comment at other blogs, especially Chicagoboyz where I often post as well. I will try to do some more medical posts, which I have neglected.

Too bad, doc. I’ve always appreciated your comments at Althouse.

  2. Mike K says:

Thanks but I am tired of the anger. I found I was getting into it, too.

I stopped reading Patterico several years ago but I’m sorry you are no longer commenting on Althouse. Admittedly some of the comments are tedious and there is too much bickering back and forth between some of the commenters. Even so, I think it is an interesting blog. There are several astute commenters and you were one of them.

I still skim Althouse. There are some good comments. About the only one who provides good links is narciso. I tried to do that but got bogged down in personal insults and found I was getting too emotional with some of them.

byway has good comments and several others. Too many trolls, though.

It just this morning occurred to me (at Althouse) to wonder where you’ve been.

Understandable enough, your withdrawal from the nonsense over there. I use a comments blocker browser add-on that works wonders for me, although it’s only two people I use it against: of course I don’t comment at the Empyrean heights occupied by you, narciso, buwaya, and several others. 🙂

Doc (I apologize for the informality), I always enjoyed your comments at Althouse. There are several good posters, of which I include you.

Everyone can get upset at comments made. I rarely post at Althouse because the nastiness from several posters just makes it so tedious to engage in a productive exchange of viewpoints. You end up having to scroll through so many personal insults that it just isn’t worth it.

So, I read to find out what Professor Althouse is thinking on a particular topic and look for viewpoints from approx. 5-10 posters who may comment in reply.

I wish you well and hope you stop back over there from time to time.

    Good luck Dude.

I skimmed today and was reminded of why I left. I also post at NewNeo and she will point out if a commenter is abusing the site. I quit Ricochet because they got too sensitive and banned me for todays fro using the term “TDS” to a commenter who has a bad case of it.

I need more time for things I enjoy. I do skim the comments there but don’t plan to return. Ann seems to throw out a couple of topics and leave. A couple of commenters there are just trolls and she makes no effort to deal with their abuse.

    Mike K, come back!!

Hi, Doc! Just to add my voice as one who misses your contributions, and, given things like the RBG health incident, had worried about possible misadventure. Glad you’re still up and posting, if not at A-Blog. Would welcome you back. True, some of the Ls there are unspeakable. Is that how they win, by disgusting us normals into withdrawal? Feh. But we all have to make our own choices.

  11. Bad Lieutenant says:

Excuse me – Mike. You said friends don’t call you Doc.
