Low population growth, after the catastrophic loses of men in World War I, was blamed for defeat even though the French Army was larger than the German in 1940 and had better equipment.

Never underestimate the significance of proper military strategy. Too bad the French had to learn that the hard way.

I'm working on Part 2 and should post it tonight or tomorrow. I really think this may be an alternative for us.

Ah! Much better. I need whitespace...

Blogger is just the opposite, it puts 4-6 lines in between paragraphs that I have to constantly battle to take out so my posts are too spaced out.

If I edit the blog in Safari, I lose the formating. Usally, I edit in another browser and it stays OK. I forgot this morning and made only a minor edit. It's annoying and seems to be a bug in Safari.

I am working on the second half of this post, which will describe the present system and how it works. I got interested in reading an expatriate section in the Telegraph for British retirees living in France and how they can get registered for the system. French satisfaction is very high. The system is in trouble but most of that is about pensions, not the medical part. This is a very good option for US reform.

That was quite a tour de force. The French system gets overlooked here in the health care debate, when it's assumed that either we stay the way we are, or adopt a British or Canadian model system.

Reducing moral hazard by having patients pay then get reimbursed is an extremely interesting approach I hope someone brings up in the election campaign.
